Cyprus Digital Nomad Visa 2026: Income, Documents, Fees

Who it is for

The official page says the scheme is for nationals of non-EU and non-EEA countries who can perform work remotely through telecommunications technology. They must be employed in a company registered abroad, or be self-employed offering services remotely for clients located abroad. The scheme allows them to reside temporarily in Cyprus and work for an employer registered abroad, or for companies or clients located abroad. The Council of Ministers approved the scheme on 15 October 2021 with a ceiling of 100 permits and raised it to 500 on 3 March 2022. The page says the maximum remains 500 and that the Department is once again accepting applications.

Income and work documents

The page says applicants must prove stable and sufficient monthly net income of at least €3500, after the deduction of contributions and taxes. The supporting-documents list asks for proof of salary payment showing the net income and detailed bank statements of the last 6 months that prove a stable and satisfactory income outside the Republic. Where there is no proof of net income, the list requires an affirmation that the net income is not less than the minimum amount required. Employees need an employment contract of indefinite duration or at least as long as the permit requested, the employer's confirmation that they can work remotely and that the work does not concern an employer registered in Cyprus, and the company's registration certificate abroad; the self-employed need project or service contracts lasting at least as long as the permit requested and their own confirmation that they can work remotely and that the project does not concern a client established in Cyprus.

Documents

For a first permit, the supporting-documents list asks for a copy of a valid passport or other travel document, valid for at least three months from submission, and the passport page that shows the last entry in the Republic. For employees, it asks for the contact information of the company abroad and information on the status of the applicant in the company. It also asks for an original criminal record certificate, original blood analysis results and chest x-rays, health insurance (Plan A) covering inpatient and outpatient care and transportation of corpse, a title deed or rental agreement with a utility bill (duly stamped if valued over €5000), and an affirmation that no work or services will be provided to an employer or clients established in Cyprus. Documents must be in Greek or English, or come with an official translation, and must be duly certified or ratified; the Department's document-ratification page explains the Apostille and diplomatic certification.

How to apply

The page says the application should be submitted within 3 months of arrival at the central offices of the Department in Nicosia. An older scheme leaflet headed January 2022, still linked from the Department's forms page, says the applicant enters Cyprus with a tourist visa (where necessary); the current page does not repeat this. Someone legally resident under a different status may also apply at the Migration Department in Nicosia. Applications can be submitted personally or through an authorised representative; those without all required documents will not be accepted for consideration. Biometric data and a signature are necessary for issuing the permit. The appointments page lists the services that need an appointment, and digital nomads are not among them; it says other applications are submitted without an appointment, on a first-come, first-served basis.

Fees and examination time

The page lists two fees: €70 for the issuance or renewal of a temporary residence permit, and €70 for registration to the Aliens’ Registry, which applies only in cases of initial registration. It says the applicable fees are paid for the application submission. On examination, it says the time of examination is between 5 – 7 weeks. If the application is approved, the applicant receives a letter on how to receive the temporary residence permit. If it is rejected, the applicant receives a letter giving the rejection reasons.

How long it lasts, renewal and tax residence

The page says a first temporary residence permit is issued with a validity of one year, with a possibility of renewal for further two years. In case of renewal, the permit is issued with a validity of maximum two years. Applications for renewal should be submitted to the Civil Registry and Migration Department in Nicosia, with the necessary documents, at least one month before the expiration date. The renewal list in the supporting-documents file asks again for the net-income evidence, health insurance, the title deed or rental agreement and the no-work affirmation. On tax, the page says that residing in the Republic for periods in total exceeding 183 days within the same tax year makes a person a tax resident of Cyprus, provided they are not a tax resident in any other country.

Family members

The page says family members include the spouse or civil-union partner and underaged children. They can reside in Cyprus for the same period as the digital nomad, without the right to be employed or perform any economic activity in Cyprus, and they need to obtain a temporary residence permit. The supporting-documents note says the €3500 amount is increased by 20% for the spouse or partner and by 15% for each child. Separate document lists for a spouse or partner and for children ask, among other documents, for a marriage or civil union certificate or the child's birth certificate, the family member's own criminal record certificate (not required for children under 16), medical test results (for children under 15 a Mantoux skin test instead of an x-ray) and health insurance; for minors, a court decision on exclusive custody or an affidavit in which the other parent agrees, where applicable. For pupils and students, a registration or attendance certificate from an academic institution is also asked.

This page does not cover how many permits under the ceiling are still available, whether the fees are charged for each family member, whether adult dependant children can be included (the main page names underaged children, while the children's document list is headed for minor and adult dependant children), which nationalities need an entry visa, where biometric data is captured or what changes must be reported during the examination, appeal routes after a rejection, any route to permanent residence or citizenship, or tax rules other than the residence-days statement.
