Which population, circumstances or geographic group does the mechanism cover?

A person who has, or was last granted, permission in one of the listed categories (for example as a partner under Appendix FM(J) or Part 11, or as a victim of domestic abuse under Appendix FM(J)) and whose relationship with their partner has broken down permanently as a result of domestic abuse. Dependent children can also apply on this route.

Where can protection be requested, and is this a direct application, border/in-country request, referral or other process?

The applicant must be in Jersey, unless they are overseas because they have been abandoned overseas. A person applying from outside Jersey must apply for entry clearance online on gov.uk using the form 'Return to the UK' and must obtain entry clearance before arriving in Jersey.

What happens after the request: registration, family handling, major support and rights where officially stated?

If all suitability and eligibility requirements are met the application is granted, otherwise refused. An applicant outside Jersey who meets the requirements is granted entry clearance for settlement; an applicant in Jersey who meets them is granted settlement. The official source does not state support, housing or rights while the application is pending.

Applications made in Jersey go to the Jersey Customs and Immigration Service. An alternative route may be available under Appendix EU(J) for relevant family members who are victims of domestic abuse.
