Freelancer and Self-Employment Visas: Compare the Evidence

Start with the exact route.

Berlin asks for freelance activity and financial evidence. The Netherlands publishes a dated monthly gross-profit criterion for its self-employed residence permit. A catalogue label alone does not establish a Japanese freelance visa.

Selected primary sources checked 5 October 2026.

Freelancing is a work model; immigration permission depends on the destination, activity and applicant. These selected examples explain how to compare evidence. They do not form a ranking or a complete country inventory.

Prepare a useful enquiry

  1. Identify the activity, where the clients are and how long you intend to stay.
  2. Ask the responsible authority which permission applies to your nationality and residence.
  3. Separate turnover, profit, salary and savings. Keep the currency and assessment period beside every amount.
  4. Confirm application documents, local procedure, family arrangements and subsequent residence steps for the exact route.

Questions before acting

Is there one income amount for freelancers everywhere?

No. A local evidence checklist and a dated national gross-profit criterion measure different things. Compare the exact route, income type, currency and period.

What does the Netherlands publish for this route?

For a residence permit as a self-employed person, IND states €1,766.77 gross profit per month with holiday allowance, valid 1 July–31 December 2026. Other requirements still apply.

Does the Germany checklist prove a fixed monthly minimum?

The Berlin freelance checklist asks for a revenue forecast and client evidence. It does not establish the previous unsupported monthly amount or a nationwide fixed tariff.

Is the catalogue label enough to identify a Japanese visa?

No. Use the official Japanese activity/status categories and the responsible authority to identify the applicable route. Do not reuse the previous euro income conversion as a general freelancer requirement.

Corrections and editorial scope

5 October 2026: removed incompatible monthly figures, unsupported processing/permanent-residence/family estimates, the uniform difficulty score and the unproved easiest-country claim. The Dutch figure is restored only with the route, gross-profit definition and valid period. The Berlin checklist and Japanese category identity are separately scoped.
