For the relevant traveller scope, is a visa, electronic authorisation, visa on arrival or no advance visa normally required?

Visa on Arrival is limited to nationals of Japan and South Korea, and to UAE nationals who previously obtained an Indian e-Visa or regular/paper visa. People with Pakistani birth or permanent residence in their own or a parent's or grandparent's history, and diplomatic or official passport holders, are excluded.

What important funds, accommodation, invitation, insurance, onward-travel or passport evidence may be required?

The official conditions require a passport valid for at least six months, a return or onward ticket, and sufficient money for the stay. Applicants must also have no residence or occupation in India.

Where/how is permission obtained when required, and under what important circumstances can a stay be extended or changed?

Eligible Japanese, South Korean and qualifying UAE nationals apply at the visa counter on arrival at Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata or Mumbai airport, with the application form and disembarkation card. The fee is Rs. 2,000 per passenger and the visa is non-extendable and non-convertible.
