What education or training is this pathway designed for?

The Student Visa is for a foreigner whose sole objective is on-campus, full-time (structured) courses, including English and other language courses and vocational education, at recognised educational institutions. It is not issued for students sponsored by franchise institutes running off-campus centres, open-university study centres offering distance learning, outreach programmes or courses without statutory sanction, nor for unrecognised short-term courses.

What type of institution/course must accept or enrol the applicant?

The applicant must produce proof of admission to a full-time course in a recognised institution in India; only on-campus, full-time structured courses at educational institutions duly recognised by a statutory regulatory body qualify.

What are the most important financial or study-related conditions: tuition, funds, insurance, full-time study, attendance or equivalent?

Only for on-campus, full-time structured courses at educational institutions duly recognised by a statutory regulatory body; the foreigner must produce proof of admission to a full-time course in a recognised institution in India. The student must be of assured financial standing (a parent/guardian support letter with bank guarantee may be accepted), show transfer of adequate funds for at least 4 months' sustenance, and open an NRO account as proof of financial sustenance. A Health Ministry approval/NOC is needed for medical or para-medical courses.
