For the relevant traveller scope, is a visa, electronic authorisation, visa on arrival or no advance visa normally required?

An advance electronic visa is required: nationals of countries listed on the official e-Visa website are eligible to apply online (uploading photo and passport page); an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) is sent by e-mail, and the traveller prints it and presents it at the Immigration Check Post, where the e-Visa is stamped on the passport.

The five-year e-Tourist Visa is valid for five years from ETA grant, permits multiple entries, and limits total stay in India to 180 days in a calendar year.
