Study visa applicants must show proof of income that justifies their maintenance and accommodation in Uruguay for the declared stay. For the student temporary residence, means of living sufficient for maintenance must be shown; these may come from a family member (proving the link) or from abroad (notarial certificate of the amount received).     Visa de estudio Requisitos Pasaporte con vigencia mínima de seis meses y en buen estado. Comprobante de ingresos, debidamente acreditados que justifiquen su manutención y alojamiento en Uruguay por el plazo de estadía informado por el solicitante. Constancia de inscripción o nota de la institución o centro educativo público o privado donde cursará los estudios, usufructuará beca o desarrollará pasantía. La misma deberá estar membretada y firmada por el representante legal de la institución y deberá contener los datos personales del representante, así como también el número de inscripción o habilitación del Ministerio de Educación y Cultura.

    Estudiantes: Probar dicha calidad mediante certificado oficial de la institución educativa -en el caso de ser un instituto privado irá acompañado de certificación notarial de la existencia del instituto y su contralor. Además, se deberá acreditar medios de vida, los cuales deberán ser suficientes para su manutención. En caso de no poseer medios de vida propios: Puede aportar medios de vida de un familiar debiendo acreditar dicho vínculo. Si los medios de vida provienen del exterior, aportar certificado notarial donde conste el dinero que recibe del exterior, detallando monto, lugar donde percibe el giro y parentesco del que realiza el mismo.

How long does the status last, how is it renewed, and what officially documented post-study work or residence possibilities exist?

The study visa holder's stay is governed by Article 11(b) and (c) of Decree 394/009, and the holder has 30 days from entry to apply for temporary residence. Students receive temporary residence of up to one year, renewable up to a maximum that does not exceed the total length of the course by more than two years; scholarship holders and interns receive up to one year, renewable while the scholarship or internship lasts. The official source does not state any post-study work or residence option.

    d) Visa de estudio: es aquella que se expide a toda persona que pretenda realizar estudios, usufructuar becas o pasantías en programas oficiales, gubernamentales de intercambio o en instituciones habilitadas o autorizadas por los organismos oficiales correspondientes. Su permanencia en el país se regulará conforme los términos establecidos en el artículo 11 literales b y c del Decreto 394/009, del 24 de agosto de 2009. A efectos de gestionar su residencia temporaria, contará con un plazo de 30 días desde la fecha de ingreso al país.
