    The United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA), formerly known as the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), created special economic and trade relationships for the United States, Canada, and Mexico. The TN nonimmigrant classification permits qualified Canadian and Mexican citizens to seek temporary entry into the United States to engage in business activities at a professional level.

How long is the permission normally granted for, how is it renewed, and what longer-term residence direction exists if officially stated?

The initial period of stay is up to 3 years. To remain beyond it without first departing, an extension of stay must be sought, and the employer may file Form I-129 if the worker is in the United States.
