Limits of the record
  • Searched the Regulations and Act for occupation lists, qualifications, experience, salary, skill level or labour-market tests for the employment permit; none stated. The only employment-specific requirement (Form 5 sponsorship) is the R2 answer.

What work does the permission allow? Is the holder tied to an employer, occupation or sector? Can family accompany where clearly established?

The Principal Immigration Officer may attach conditions on the profession or occupation the holder may exercise and the employer(s) who may employ them. The Minister may cancel the permit if the employment has ceased or the holder has changed employment. Fees are set for the principal applicant and each dependent ($600/$150 lodged outside Tuvalu; $1,200/$300 lodged in Tuvalu).

Limits of the record
  • That dependants can accompany is an inference from the per-dependent fee, not an express rule.

How long is the permission normally granted for, how is it renewed, and what longer-term residence direction exists if officially stated?

The permit may be granted for a maximum stay of one year and extended on a Form 4 application, but not more than three times in any five-year period unless the Minister, on the Citizenship Committee's advice, certifies it is in the national interest. The official source does not state any longer-term residence direction.

Limits of the record
  • No longer-term or permanent residence direction is stated.
