Where/how is permission obtained when required, and under what important circumstances can a stay be extended or changed?
Tourist visa applications are submitted to Timor-Leste diplomatic missions or consular posts abroad, or at Timor-Leste border posts. The tourist visa is valid for thirty days and may be extended once for an equal period; it allows a single entry, except for travel to or from Oe-Cusse Ambeno, where multiple entries are allowed. An extension request must be submitted to the migration service no later than fifteen days before the visa expires. An extension is only authorised in duly justified cases and only while the conditions on which the visa was granted still apply. Extension beyond the legal limits is possible only in exceptional cases of serious medical or humanitarian reasons, or of absolute impossibility of transport within the visa's time limit where this was not caused by the person, and only for the time strictly needed to obtain transport. The official source does not state whether a tourist visa can be changed to another status.
