What type of worker, employment situation, occupation or professional activity is this pathway actually designed for?

The LTR Work-from-Thailand Professional category is for remote workers employed by a foreign company while living in Thailand. BOI Announcement No. Por. 3/2568 defines it by the employer and the income rather than by occupation: the applicant must show employment with a qualifying foreign employer and a minimum average personal income. The BOI states plainly that this category is for people who earn income from employment with overseas companies that allow them to work remotely, and it is the one LTR category that cannot obtain a work permit.

Does the applicant need a job offer, employer, sponsor, transfer relationship or other employer involvement? What is important about that employer relationship?

A foreign employer is essential and its profile is prescribed. The employer must be a company listed on any stock exchange in any country; or a private company that has been in operation for at least 3 years with combined revenue of at least USD 50 million over those 3 years as of the date of application; or a wholly owned subsidiary of such a company. There is no Thai employer and no Thai sponsor: working for a Thai employer for income in Thailand is expressly outside this category.

What work does the permission allow? Is the holder tied to an employer, occupation or sector? Can family accompany where clearly established?

The work permitted is remote work for the qualifying foreign employer. The BOI states that holders of this category cannot engage in work or activities with Thai employers that generate income in Thailand, because the visa does not allow for a work permit, and that holders cannot apply for a digital work permit; someone taking on-site work must switch visa type. Dependants of the primary LTR holder are the legitimate spouse, parents, and children under 20 years old or legal dependants.
