What type of worker, employment situation, occupation or professional activity is this pathway actually designed for?

The pathway is for foreign or overseas Chinese students who have obtained an associate degree or higher in Taiwan and, as new graduates, have NIA approval to extend their residence; during that period they may work without applying for a work permit.

Does the applicant need a job offer, employer, sponsor, transfer relationship or other employer involvement? What is important about that employer relationship?

No work permit is required during the extended residence, and there are no limits on employer eligibility; the required government step is NIA approval to extend residence as a new graduate. The official source does not state whether a job offer is needed to obtain the extension.

What are the few decisive professional characteristics of the pathway: occupation, qualifications, experience, salary, skill level, shortage status, labour-market condition or equivalent?

The decisive characteristic is an associate degree or higher obtained in Taiwan, with NIA approval to extend residence as a new graduate. There are no restrictions on industry or position, but work that by law requires professional qualification certification or registration still needs those qualifications.

What work does the permission allow? Is the holder tied to an employer, occupation or sector? Can family accompany where clearly established?

During the extended residence the holder may work freely, full-time or part-time, with no restrictions on industry or position and no limits on employer eligibility, so the holder is not tied to one employer. The official source does not state whether family members may accompany.

How long is the permission normally granted for, how is it renewed, and what longer-term residence direction exists if officially stated?

The extended residence lasts for a maximum of two years. After it expires, continuing to work in a professional or technical position requires the employer to apply to the Ministry of Labor for a work permit, currently online through the Foreign Professional Work Permit Application System. Graduates with an associate degree or higher from Taiwan may deduct one to three years from the continuous residence required when applying for permanent residence.
