What type of worker, employment situation, occupation or professional activity is this pathway actually designed for?

It is for British citizens who live in another country but work or run their own business in Sweden (frontier workers); under the EU-UK Withdrawal Agreement they can apply for a certificate verifying frontier-worker status and the right to be in Sweden.

Does the applicant need a job offer, employer, sponsor, transfer relationship or other employer involvement? What is important about that employer relationship?

The applicant must work or run their own business in Sweden. Employees attach proof of employment giving the employer’s name, contact details and company registration number, wages, duration and weekly hours, and start date, plus the latest pay slip; self-employed persons attach e.g. an F-tax certificate, accounting certificate, latest VAT report or tax account statements.

What are the few decisive professional characteristics of the pathway: occupation, qualifications, experience, salary, skill level, shortage status, labour-market condition or equivalent?

The decisive features are cross-border: the applicant must be resident in another country and must have resided in another country and worked in Sweden before 31 December 2020, shown with proof of residence abroad and documents showing how often they travel to and from Sweden.

Limits of the record
  • Searched 55f7c2d93a5fa128.txt for work scope, employer tie, sector limits and family; the page only defines frontier workers and the certificate (used in R1).

How long is the permission normally granted for, how is it renewed, and what longer-term residence direction exists if officially stated?

The frontier-worker card is valid for five years and can be renewed; to renew, the holder books an appointment via My page to be photographed and fingerprinted for a new card, and receives a message about three months before expiry.
