What type of worker, employment situation, occupation or professional activity is this pathway actually designed for?

Spain's seasonal-work residence and work authorisation is for a foreign national over 16 who is authorised to reside and work as an employee for seasonal periods of up to nine months in each calendar year during the permit's validity.

Does the applicant need a job offer, employer, sponsor, transfer relationship or other employer involvement? What is important about that employer relationship?

The authorisation is granted for one employer and requires a written fixed-discontinuous employment contract. The contract must state the workplace, type and duration of seasonal work, hours and start date; the worker must receive a copy in a language they understand.

What are the few decisive professional characteristics of the pathway: occupation, qualifications, experience, salary, skill level, shortage status, labour-market condition or equivalent?

The worker must not reside or be present in Spain. The national employment situation must permit hiring foreign workers, except for occupations included in the annual forecast approved in the collective-management procedures for employment contracts, which follow their own regime. The worker must hold any certificates or administrative licences required for a regulated professional activity under the applicable sectoral rules.

What work does the permission allow? Is the holder tied to an employer, occupation or sector? Can family accompany where clearly established?

The four-year authorisation permits seasonal work for up to nine months in each calendar year. It is granted for one employer and is generally limited to one autonomous-community area and one occupation where the national employment situation applies. The official source does not state whether family members may accompany the holder.

How long is the permission normally granted for, how is it renewed, and what longer-term residence direction exists if officially stated?

The authorisation's validity depends on the conditions that justified its grant being maintained. In the first year, entry into Spain requires the seasonal residence-and-work visa; in each later year, if all requirements are met, the holder must be called again by the employer under the employment contract concluded. After it expires, the authorisation may be renewed for equal four-year periods; renewal may be requested by the same employer or another employer meeting the requirements, and must relate to the same sector of activity, although the occupation and geographic scope may change.
