Does the applicant need a job offer, employer, sponsor, transfer relationship or other employer involvement? What is important about that employer relationship?

Yes, the applicant must be an employee of a foreign employer established in an EU/EEA state or Switzerland, and the posting must be to a service beneficiary in Romania. The employer relationship is central: the worker must have a valid residence permit from the employer's state, and the posting is based on an employment contract and posting act.

What work does the permission allow? Is the holder tied to an employer, occupation or sector? Can family accompany where clearly established?

The long-stay visa for secondment is granted for carrying out gainful activities in Romania with a beneficiary of the services provided, and attests the holder's right to work in Romania. The official source does not state whether the holder may change employer or service beneficiary, or family accompaniment.

Limits of the record
  • Whether the holder may change employer or service beneficiary is not stated.
  • Family accompaniment is not stated.

How long is the permission normally granted for, how is it renewed, and what longer-term residence direction exists if officially stated?

The Romanian eVisa material describes the EU/EEA/Swiss-employer posted-worker case as a 12-month posting, extendable to at most 18 months in any 36-month period. Separately, Article 56^1(4) in the official April 2026 law consolidation allows extension of temporary stay for employees of EU/EEA/Swiss legal persons posted to Romania on production of the foreign registered and translated employment contract, the valid residence permit issued in the employer’s state, the translated posting act and proof of means at least equal to Romania’s guaranteed minimum gross salary. The April 2026 law text repeals Article 56^1(1)–(3) and (5), so the captured paragraph (4) itself does not prove that the eVisa page’s 12/18-month figure remains the statutory extension ceiling. A separate general long-term residence application requires temporary stay and, ordinarily, five continuous years plus Article 71 conditions; nothing here grants posted workers that status automatically.

Limits of the record
  • The eVisa guidance and the April 2026 Article 56^1(4) are distinct sources; the latter does not itself repeat the 12/18-month figure. The precise legal basis for that current maximum and route-specific later renewal are not reconciled here. General Article 70/71 is a conditional direction, not a posted-worker entitlement. Later changes after the April 2026 consolidation remain unverified.
