Which types of residence count fully, partially or not at all where the official rules specify this?

What absence/continuity rules affect accumulation of the qualifying residence period?

Sporadic/short absences, if duly justified, are not an obstacle. Long absences (for example longer than school holidays) must be duly justified and do not lead to refusal, except where the parents' absence is also unjustified, given minors' legal incapacity.

What other major conditions apply, how is the status obtained, and what renewal, document-validity, retention or loss rules matter?

Documents: valid passport, address declaration, proof of means of subsistence, the minor's birth certificate and a school attendance declaration (Modelo 1 form). If the minor stops attending pre-school or basic education without valid reason, the permit is cancelled or not renewed; for secondary or vocational education it may be cancelled or not renewed. The temporary residence permit is, subject to special legal provisions, valid for two years from issue and renewable for successive three-year periods.
