Applicant must be over 18 (or emancipated) and know Portuguese sufficiently, and must not have been sentenced to 3 or more years of prison for a crime punishable in Portugal nor be involved in terrorism-related activities. The request can be made online by a lawyer or solicitor, or in person (e.g. CNAIM Porto, nationality desks of civil registries, Conservatória dos Registos Centrais, civil registries, Portuguese consulate) or by post. The request costs 250 euros.
