Temporary residence permit for an intern

An internship, as defined in the Act on Foreigners, means performing tasks assigned by the internship organizer that do not constitute work. These tasks are performed so that the foreigner may acquire knowledge, practical skills, and professional experience relevant to the field and level of their completed or ongoing studies.

The permit may only be granted to individuals who have been accepted for an internship related to their studies and lasting more than 3 months, provided that the internship organizer has been approved through the appropriate procedure by the minister responsible for internal affairs and has its registered office in Poland.

The organiser of the internship is a legal person (e.g. Sp. z o.o., S.A., foundation, association) or an organisational unit which is not a legal person and which has legal capacity (e.g. sp. kom., sp. j., sp.p.), with its seat in Poland, which has been approved by the minister responsible for internal affairs,pursuant to Article 157a(6) of the Aliens Act.

+ the foreigner has submitted a higher education diploma (obtained within the last 2 years) or a document confirming their studies outside the EU;

+ the foreigner holds a written commitment from the internship organiser to reimburse the costs of issuing and enforcing the return decision;

+ has completed or is attending a Polish language course or other internship language course at the level of linguistic proficiency necessary for the internship;

+ the foreigner has health insurance;

+ the foreigner has a guaranteed place of residence in Poland;

The financial means you have at your disposal each month, after deducting actual housing costs, should be sufficient to cover daily expenses. This amount must be higher than

1,010 PLN per month – if you have no dependants; 823 PLN per month – for yourself and for each family member who is your dependant, i.e. 823 + 823 * X (1, 2, 3...).

200 PLN – in the case of a country neighbouring Poland; 500 PLN – in the case of an EU country not neighbouring Poland, Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein or Switzerland; 2,500 PLN – in the case of other countries.

As a rule, to work in Poland you must hold a valid work permit or, if you are a citizen of Ukraine, Belarus, Armenia or Moltova, a statement on entrusting work to a foreigner.

the period necessary to complete the internship – from more than 3 to 6 months

The permit is not automatically renewed. A foreign national who wishes to continue staying in Poland should apply for a residence permit (for the same or a different purpose) before the permit expires, provided they meet the requirements for its issuance.
