For the relevant traveller scope, is a visa, electronic authorisation, visa on arrival or no advance visa normally required?

All foreign visitors to Papua New Guinea need a visa, regulated and issued by ICA. Visa on Arrival is only available to selected countries; Chinese tourists with ordinary passports travelling in organised tour groups with a registered tour operator in Papua New Guinea are eligible for VoA.

What maximum stay, rolling-period rule, validity and entry rules apply?

The holder of an Entry Permit must enter Papua New Guinea within six months of the Entry Permit being issued. The official source does not state a maximum stay or validity period for the Tour Package class.

What important funds, accommodation, invitation, insurance, onward-travel or passport evidence may be required?

The required evidence is a letter of request from a tour agent/sponsor registered with the PNG Tourism Promotion Authority (TPA) and Investment Promotion Authority (IPA), a copy of the valid passport bio page and a copy of the travel itinerary confirming an onward/return ticket. Passports should be valid for at least 6 months from the date of intended travel.

Where/how is permission obtained when required, and under what important circumstances can a stay be extended or changed?

Visitor visa applications must be submitted online, and this class is available online at ica.gov.pg. Extensions must be lodged well in advance of the expiry of the current entry permit, are only issued to people currently in Papua New Guinea, and there is no period of grace. The visa fee is nil, the extension fee is USD 150, the late extension fee is USD 700 and the eVisa fee is USD 50.
