Can the student work? Under what major restrictions? What is the family position where clearly stated?
Research Academic is within Special Exemption Visas, covering government-approved paid or unpaid activities. Its stated scope is educational, medical or scientific research in PNG, or teaching in a PNG institution. A sponsor undertaking must be signed at managerial level for the applicant’s welfare, including the reason for stay, extension and guarantee of financial support. Separately, approval from the PNG National Research Institute, Institute of Medical Research or an educational institution must state the purpose and duration of the visit. This supports the approved research/teaching activity rather than unrestricted outside employment.
