Tertiary vocational education at a vocational college (fagskole): students admitted at a fagskole can be granted a student permit.

Limits of the record
  • Mapping of the catalogue name "Vocational school" to the Norwegian term "fagskole" is an inference; the UDI page could not be read.

What type of institution/course must accept or enrol the applicant?

The institution must be one whose studies are approved: UDI (Utlendingsdirektoratet), in consultation with the Ministry of Education (Kunnskapsdepartementet), may issue guidelines on which studies can be approved and whether other institutions or schools can be approved.

Limits of the record
  • The list of approved schools and the admission document required are not stated in the regulation; UDI page not read (403).

What are the most important financial or study-related conditions: tuition, funds, insurance, full-time study, attendance or equivalent?

Permits are granted only for full-time study; the student must need to stay at the place of study, and education must be the purpose of the stay. The official source does not state funds, tuition or insurance requirements.

Can the student work? Under what major restrictions? What is the family position where clearly stated?

Holders of a § 6-19 student permit also get permission for part-time work of 20 hours a week and full-time work during ordinary holidays, and possibly full-time work for a limited period when documentation shows the work is part of the education. The official source does not state the family position.

How long does the status last, how is it renewed, and what officially documented post-study work or residence possibilities exist?

The checked official sources did not provide enough route-specific evidence to confirm the duration, renewal and post-study work or residence options.

These are the answers currently recorded in the catalogue. A missing or partial answer is not an eligibility decision.
