How long is the permission normally granted for, how is it renewed, and what longer-term residence direction exists if officially stated?

The permit is granted for up to six months. If it is applied for after entry, its duration counts from the date of entry and the application must be made within three months of entry. A person who has held this permit can get a new one after one year outside Norway. The permit does not form a basis for permanent residence.
