Yes. The applicant must be employed by an enterprise abroad that has a contract with an enterprise in Norway to carry out an assignment here; the Norwegian enterprise must have a registered business address in Norway and cannot be a staffing company; as a general rule the offer of work must only be for one company in Norway; when applying from abroad the client must first submit confirmation of the assignment offer.

Only the assignment described in the contract for that enterprise: other assignments or work for another enterprise require a new residence permit, and remote work is not allowed unless it is part of the job. If the holder is employed in an international company (on assignment for the Norwegian branch), the spouse or cohabitant and children can apply for residence permits in Norway.

How long is the permission normally granted for, how is it renewed, and what longer-term residence direction exists if officially stated?

A permit for two years at a time, for up to six years; after that the holder must live outside Norway for two years before applying for a new such permit. The period does not count towards a later permanent residence permit.
