What type of institution/course must accept or enrol the applicant?

The applicant must have admission to a folk high school that is on the Norwegian Directorate for Education and Training's list.

What are the most important financial or study-related conditions: tuition, funds, insurance, full-time study, attendance or equivalent?

Enough money to live on and to pay the school tuition fees: a minimum of NOK 130 745 for the 2026/2027 school year (student loans, grants, own funds in a Norwegian bank account or the institution's deposit account, or a combination; income from an already-offered part-time job in Norway may be included). The applicant cannot have had a previous residence permit to attend a religion/belief-based school (bible school) or folk high school; an application fee is payable.

The holder may work part-time for up to 20 hours per week, including remote work, in addition to studies, and full-time during holidays. The holder cannot be self-employed or run their own business in Norway. Family members cannot apply for family immigration to come and live with the holder in Norway.

The permit is valid for one year and cannot be renewed; the period does not count towards a later permanent residence permit. The official source does not state any post-study work or residence possibility.
