Which nationalities and age range can participate?

What combination of travel, work, study or training does the programme permit?

The residence is for participation in the exchange programme; a foreigner staying for an international pupil or student exchange may not be employed or work in North Macedonia.

What are the defining limitations: quota, ballot, previous participation, employer limits, study limits or equivalent?

The defining condition is a confirmation from a state body, a higher-education institution entered in the Ministry of Education and Science register, or an institution competent to implement ratified international exchange agreements, establishing that the foreigner has been accepted into the exchange and the duration of participation.

What funds, insurance, onward travel or similar preparation is particularly important?

The applicant needs a confirmation from a state body, a registered higher-education institution or an institution competent under ratified exchange agreements that it assumes financial responsibility for the foreigner during the stay for subsistence, accommodation, schooling or study, health insurance and return costs.

How long can the person stay, can the programme be extended or repeated, and what happens when it ends?

Temporary residence for the exchange is granted for up to one year; by exception, for particularly justified reasons, it may be extended for no more than one year. The official source does not state what happens when the exchange ends.
