Where/how is permission obtained when required, and under what important circumstances can a stay be extended or changed?

An NZeTA must be obtained before leaving for New Zealand. Permission to enter is applied for before arrival by completing an NZTD form, which also serves as the application for this visa on entry; if the requirements are met, the Visa Waiver Visitor Visa is given at the border. A person who has already spent 6 months in New Zealand in a 12-month period must instead apply for a visitor visa before travelling.
