How long can the person stay, can the programme be extended or repeated, and what happens when it ends?

The stay is up to 12 months. Holders doing work in certain industries may be able to stay longer through a Working Holiday Extension Work Visa: after completing 3 months of that work they may be able to stay another 3 months. The programme cannot be repeated: anyone previously given a New Zealand working holiday visa cannot apply, even if it was not used. Applicants must have plans to leave New Zealand at the end of their stay.
