How long can the person stay, can the programme be extended or repeated, and what happens when it ends?
The stay is up to 12, 23 or 36 months depending on the visa applied for. Holders of a 12 or 23-month visa can apply for a Subsequent Work Visa to extend to the maximum of 36 months if they are in New Zealand on a valid visa, continue to have NZD $350 a month, show onward travel, get a medical examination if not done before, and submit the form, fee and immigration levy; extra evidence is needed for 23 or 36 months. Those not meeting these requirements may be eligible for a 3-month extension after 3 months of work in certain industries. The programme cannot be repeated: anyone previously given a working holiday visa cannot apply.
