Which travellers require a transit visa/permission and which officially documented exemptions are important?
Anyone passing through Auckland International Airport needs a Transit Visa unless they are: a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident; the holder of a valid New Zealand visa; an Australian citizen or permanent resident; travelling on a passport from a transit visa waiver country or a visa waiver country or territory; travelling to or from Australia; travelling on a foreign passport with a New Zealand citizen endorsement; a member of, or associated with, an Antarctic Treaty scientific programme or expedition; or a member of a visiting force (including its civilian employees) travelling in the ordinary course of duty. Visa waiver and transit visa waiver travellers, and those travelling to or from Australia, can use an NZeTA instead if they meet good character requirements. Holders of a Chinese passport can now transit on an NZeTA.
