Does the applicant need a job offer, employer, sponsor, transfer relationship or other employer involvement? What is important about that employer relationship?

The applicant or their partner must have an acceptable job offer; when invited to apply, evidence of a current offer of work for 12 months or more is required. A visa cannot be given if the employer is on the list of employers on stand-down maintained by the Labour Inspectorate.

The decisive work-related conditions are income-based: at least NZD $55,404.96 each year if dependent children are included, or at least the New Zealand minimum wage if no children are included. If both partners have job offers, income from both can be combined; the jobs must meet the job offer requirements and only 1 needs to be full-time. The applicant must speak, read and understand English.
