What type of worker, employment situation, occupation or professional activity is this pathway actually designed for?

Employees of a company established in the EU, EEA or Switzerland who are posted to work temporarily for a client in the Netherlands (posted workers / cross-border service provision).

Does the applicant need a job offer, employer, sponsor, transfer relationship or other employer involvement? What is important about that employer relationship?

Yes: the worker stays employed by the foreign employer (in the EU, EEA or Switzerland), which must register them via the Dutch online notification portal for posted workers; the work is for a client in the Netherlands. The IND recommends that the employer applies in the Netherlands; the worker may also apply.

What are the few decisive professional characteristics of the pathway: occupation, qualifications, experience, salary, skill level, shortage status, labour-market condition or equivalent?

Distinctive: the worker must already live in the posting EU/EEA/Swiss country with a residence permit and a work permit for the foreign employer, valid throughout, and may work at the Dutch client for 2 years at most as a posted worker meeting posted-worker requirements.

What work does the permission allow? Is the holder tied to an employer, occupation or sector? Can family accompany where clearly established?

Only work for the client in the Netherlands is allowed; no work permit (TWV) is needed for that work. The official source does not state whether family members may accompany the holder.

How long is the permission normally granted for, how is it renewed, and what longer-term residence direction exists if officially stated?

Valid for the period of the work, 2 years at most; it can be extended if the work is not finished and the holder has not yet been in the Netherlands for 2 years. The official source does not state a longer-term residence direction.
