For the relevant traveller scope, is a visa, electronic authorisation, visa on arrival or no advance visa normally required?

Since 1 September 2022, ordinary passport holders of Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam do not need a visa for tourist visits within their exemption period (14 days; 30 days for Vietnam) when entering and departing through Yangon, Mandalay or Naypyidaw International Airports. Ordinary passport holders of Singapore do not need a visa for tourist visits of up to 30 days and can use all International Checkpoints. Travellers who want to stay longer than the exemption period must apply for the appropriate eVisa. The official source does not give a full nationality list for other travellers.

Where/how is permission obtained when required, and under what important circumstances can a stay be extended or changed?

No visa is needed within the exemption period. Ordinary passport holders of Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam must enter and depart from Yangon, Mandalay or Naypyidaw International Airports; ordinary passport holders of Singapore can enter and depart from all International Checkpoints. Those who would like to stay in Myanmar over the exemption period are told to apply for the appropriate e-Visa.
