For the relevant traveller scope, is a visa, electronic authorisation, visa on arrival or no advance visa normally required?

Electronic authorisation (Tourist eVisa): ordinary passport holders of the 100 countries listed on the official eVisa notice (from Albania to Vietnam), plus Chinese Taiwan, Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of China and Macao Special Administrative Region of China, are eligible to apply online, get an approval letter and get the eVisa stamp upon arrival. Only passports are eligible; travel documents are not accepted and an e-visa obtained with travel documents leads to denied entry.

The Tourist eVisa is for tourism; tourists must stay in registered hotels, motels, inns, guest houses, resorts or on boat, and there are Restricted Areas for Foreigners and Tourists travelling in the country. The official source does not list other permitted or excluded activities.

What maximum stay, rolling-period rule, validity and entry rules apply?

Length of stay is 28 days from the date of arrival in Myanmar. The eVisa approval letter is valid 90 days from the issued date; if it is expired, entry is denied. The eVisa is valid for a single entry only; re-entry requires a new visa. Entry with an eVisa is currently permitted only via Yangon International Airport, Mandalay International Airport, Nay Pyi Taw International Airport and Kawthaung International Land Border Checkpoint (not via seaport).

The eVisa application requires the applicant to verify that at least six months are left on the passport; the approval letter must be printed and presented with the passport upon arrival. The official source does not state funds, accommodation, insurance or onward-travel evidence.

The Tourist eVisa is applied for online at evisa.moip.gov.mm in 5 steps: create an account, fill in the online visa form, confirm and pay by credit card, receive the eVisa approval letter by email (approval may take a minimum of 3 working days), and present the approval letter and passport to the Immigration officer at the Myanmar Immigration checkpoint on arrival to get the passport stamped. The official source does not state whether a Tourist eVisa stay can be extended or changed.
