This route is for a foreigner taking up employment in the health-care activity in Montenegro.

The foreigner may work in Montenegro only in the jobs for which the residence and work permit was issued and only for the employer who employs them. A family member holding family-reunification residence with a foreigner who has a residence permit for work may work in Montenegro after one year from obtaining that permit.

How long is the permission normally granted for, how is it renewed, and what longer-term residence direction exists if officially stated?

The permit is issued for up to three years and may be extended for up to three years. The foreigner or the employer submits the extension request to the Ministry at the place of residence no later than 30 days before the permit expires, attaching a valid foreign travel document or identity card and proof of tax and contribution payments during the permit. A permanent residence permit may be issued after five years of continuous lawful residence in Montenegro on the basis of approved temporary residence.
