Occupation Permit - Professional ProPass

“professional” means a non-citizen referred to in the First Schedule and who is employed in Mauritius by virtue of a contract of employment;

(1) A non-citizen investor, a non-citizen self-employed, the employer of a non-citizen professional or the employer of a non-citizen young professional may apply to the Director-General of Immigration for an occupation permit to authorise, notwithstanding the Non-Citizens (Employment Restriction) Act –

(b) the professional or young professional to take up employment in Mauritius.

(4) An application under subsection (1) or (3) shall – (a) be made through the NELS; (b) be accompanied by such fee as may be prescribed;

(c) in the case of a non-citizen professional or non-citizen young professional, be accompanied by a written undertaking from the employer that he will meet any expense or charge likely to be incurred for the maintenance, support or removal of the professional or young professional; and

3. Professional A monthly basic salary of at least 50,000 rupees

The Occupation Permit (OP) is a combined work and residence permit which allows foreign nationals to work and reside in Mauritius under 3 specific categories namely: Investor Professional Self-Employed

(5) For the purpose of subsection (1), a professional holding an occupation permit issued under Immigration Act 2022 shall not be deemed to have ceased to satisfy the criteria and conditions of his registration where –

(a) he changes employment and – (i) the new employment satisfies the relevant criteria specified in Part I of the First Schedule; (ii) he informs the Economic Development Board and the immigration officer of the new employment; and

(9) (a) The holder of an occupation permit as a non-citizen professional may invest in any business, provided that – (i) he is not employed in the business; and (ii) he does not derive any salary or employment benefits from the business.

(3) The spouse of the holder of an occupation permit may, on application, be granted an occupation permit.

Dependents of an OP or Residence Permit holders may also apply for residence permit for a duration not exceeding that of the main holder.

An Occupation Permit under the Professional category shall be issued for a maximum period of three years or as per the duration of the contract of employment, renewable thereafter as per established criteria.

A holder of an Occupation or Residence Permit is eligible to apply for a 20-year Residence Permit provided the following specific conditions are met:
