How long does the status last, how does renewal or change of club work where stated, and what longer-term residence possibilities exist?

The National Visa is valid for a non-renewable period of 100 days, and holders may not apply for other visa categories or residence permits while in Malta under this scheme, except through the Single Permit: if the sponsoring or another club wishes to retain the sportsperson beyond the trial, a Single Permit application must be submitted no later than 20 calendar days before the visa expires, endorsed by Sports Malta or another qualified sports regulator. Those without a valid residence permit or other authorisation must leave the Schengen territory immediately when the 100-day visa expires.
