Can the student work? Under what major restrictions? What is the family position where clearly stated?

Yes: the student may do salaried work limited to an average of 15 hours per week over a period of one month, outside study time. The limit does not apply to paid work during school holidays, doctoral research work in the higher education establishment or an accredited research institute, or University of Luxembourg assistant contracts. The employer must send a written declaration to the immigration department before hiring. The official source does not state the family position.

How long does the status last, how is it renewed, and what officially documented post-study work or residence possibilities exist?

The student permit is valid for a minimum of 1 year, or for the length of the study cycle if shorter, and is renewable on request while the conditions are met (renewal applied for within 2 months before expiry). After successfully completing the last academic year in Luxembourg of a 5-year university cycle, the graduate can use a simplified procedure to obtain a residence permit as a salaried or self-employed worker, applying before the student permit expires, for work directly related to their academic education.
