What type of worker, employment situation, occupation or professional activity is this pathway actually designed for?

This route is open to all nationals who pursue gainful employment in Liechtenstein, do not live in the immediate border area and cannot work as cross-border commuters; the B permit entitles residence in Liechtenstein for more than 12 months.

Does the applicant need a job offer, employer, sponsor, transfer relationship or other employer involvement? What is important about that employer relationship?

Yes: EEA/Swiss nationals need an employment contract of more than one year or unlimited with an appropriate workload; for others the permit conditions include an application by a domestic employer.

What are the few decisive professional characteristics of the pathway: occupation, qualifications, experience, salary, skill level, shortage status, labour-market condition or equivalent?

For non-EEA/non-Swiss nationals, only managers, specialists and other qualified employees with completed vocational training or many years of professional experience qualify (Art. 14 AuG with Art. 5 ZAV); a workload of at least 80% is required for a residence permit, and the Government may cap the number of permits.

What work does the permission allow? Is the holder tied to an employer, occupation or sector? Can family accompany where clearly established?

Holders admitted to salaried employment may change jobs within Liechtenstein, and may be self-employed if professional requirements are met; residence-permit holders under the EEA/Swiss regime may bring family members at any time subject to proofs.

How long is the permission normally granted for, how is it renewed, and what longer-term residence direction exists if officially stated?

For EEA/Swiss nationals, the residence permit allows a stay of up to five years and can be extended if there is no revocation or expulsion ground. For other nationals, it is normally limited to one year and renewable if the integration agreement is kept; a settlement permit can follow after five years of uninterrupted residence permit plus other conditions.
