The invitation is first approved at an OCMA client service centre, then the family member applies abroad at a Latvian diplomatic or consular mission, which forwards it to OCMA. The permit does not exceed the sponsor's permit term. Family members of permanent residents or of workers/self-employed get unrestricted work rights; long-term resident status after 5 years of legal residence.
First, an invitation for a visa or for a residence permit shall be approved at any client service centre of the OCMA. Family members must apply for a residence permit before they come to the Republic of Latvia at the diplomatic or consular representative office of the Republic of Latvia abroad , which sends the application to the OCMA for evaluation.
A residence permit is issued for a time period that does not exceed the period of the permit of sponsor.
A family member of a third-country citizen who is a permanent resident of the Republic of Latvia or who has received a temporary residence permit on ground of employment or self-employment has a right to work in the Republic of Latvia without restrictions.
A long-term resident status may be granted to family members who have resided legally in the Republic of Latvia for at least five years
