For the relevant traveller scope, is a visa, electronic authorisation, visa on arrival or no advance visa normally required?

All applicants, including children and infants, must have a visa to enter Lao PDR; the eVisa facility is available to nationals of listed countries, and travellers entering through a port not designated for eVisa must apply for a visa on arrival.

What maximum stay, rolling-period rule, validity and entry rules apply?

The eVisa is single-entry. The approval letter is valid for a maximum of 60 days and is used only to enter; the holder can stay up to 30 days from the date of arrival, independent of the approval letter's validity date.

Applicants must use the same passport used in the eVisa application, and the FAQ says the passport must be valid for more than 180 days from arrival.     All visitors entering the Lao PDR with approved Lao eVisa are obliged to present the same passport that was used to apply for Lao eVisa and was declared at the front-end departed checkpoint or the latest checkpoint to the Lao immigration for inspection process. Failure to comply can lead to entry permission denial.

The eVisa is obtained online at laoevisa.gov.la: the applicant fills in the personal and travel details, uploads the required documents, reviews and submits, then pays. Processing is within 03 working days after receipt of the completed application and full fee, provided the information meets the criteria and is accepted by the Lao authorities, otherwise it could take longer. The official source does not state whether or how the stay can be extended or changed.
