For the relevant traveller scope, is a visa, electronic authorisation, visa on arrival or no advance visa normally required?

A visitor visa is for a lawful temporary visit. The Entry and Visa Exemption Order 2023 waives a visa for citizens on its scheduled list, subject to its passport and stay conditions.

  • Absence of a newer instrument is confirmed as of 2026-09-14 by the current state of the official portal, not by a government notice stating no change occurred; a future change would not be automatically caught.

What short-visit purposes does this route cover?

Permitted purposes include holidays, sightseeing, family or social visits, amateur sport, and business consultation. The visitor must not intend employment or programme study or training, except short-term training.

  • Independent literal and independent review are pending; this record is not approved or ready to serve.

What maximum stay, rolling-period rule, validity and entry rules apply?

Ordinarily, stay is limited to 4 months in any 12-month period, and the visa should not allow more than 9 months in the preceding 18-month period before its proposed expiry. Special categories and circumstances beyond the person's control are exceptions. Citizens listed as visa-exempt in the order may stay no more than 90 days in a 12-month period.

What important funds, accommodation, invitation, insurance, onward-travel or passport evidence may be required?

Applicants must meet funds or sponsorship requirements and, where relevant, show means to leave Kiribati. Evidence may include a paid onward ticket, booked-and-paid travel, a guarantee, or sponsorship; citizens listed as visa-exempt in the order must use a qualifying travel document valid at least six months on departure.

Where/how is permission obtained when required, and under what important circumstances can a stay be extended or changed?

The current Immigration Division page directs applicants to obtain the Visitor Visa form, email the completed form and scanned documents to the visa officer, and follow the officer’s instructions for electronic payment. It lists a $60 visitor-visa extension fee for both exempt and non-exempt nationals. A fee listing does not establish an entitlement to extension or its conditions. The certified 2020 manual separately describes multiple-journey visitor visas lasting up to three years subject to passport validity and other requirements; that particular validity rule has not been independently reconfirmed by the current page.

  • The current application channel and extension fee are documented. Extension eligibility, changes of status, and present availability of the manual’s three-year multiple-journey option remain unconfirmed.

These are the answers currently recorded in the catalogue. A missing or partial answer is not an eligibility decision.
