Does the applicant need a job offer, employer, sponsor, transfer relationship or other employer involvement? What is important about that employer relationship?

The pathway requires a specific employer and employer involvement, including a signed cover letter addressed to the Director General of Immigration Services. The source also asks for Kenyan understudy details and evidence of local recruitment efforts.

What are the few decisive professional characteristics of the pathway: occupation, qualifications, experience, salary, skill level, shortage status, labour-market condition or equivalent?

The decisive professional fit is skills or qualifications unavailable in Kenya, with the engagement expected to benefit Kenya. The employer must also provide evidence that the vacancy was tested in the local labour market.

What work does the permission allow? Is the holder tied to an employer, occupation or sector? Can family accompany where clearly established?

The permit is tied to the specific employment and employer described in the source. As a work-permit holder, the principal can sponsor a Dependant Pass for a qualifying spouse or child. The official page does not state broader work rights.

Limits of the record
  • The source does not state family-accompaniment rules or broader work rights.

How long is the permission normally granted for, how is it renewed, and what longer-term residence direction exists if officially stated?

The 2025 Service Delivery Charter confirms the current issuance fee is Kshs. 500,000 per year (East African Community nationals: gratis); processing is Kshs. 20,000, renewal 10 working days. As a work-permit holder, the principal can sponsor a Dependant Pass for a qualifying spouse or child. Sustained Class D holding also counts toward Permanent Residence (Category B) eligibility: at least 7 years of work permits plus 3 years of continuous residence immediately before applying; once granted, spouse(s) and children can apply individually. This is eligibility to apply, not automatic conversion.
