  • Age MinTemporary-route employees must be at least eighteen on the application date.
  • Counts For SettlementTime on a temporary work-permit route does not count toward indefinite leave to remain.
  • Eligible SectorsThe annual route is restricted to construction, hospitality and sea-going fishing.
  • Employer Work Permit Application RequiredThe employer or authorised representative, not the employee, must apply for the work permit.
  • Going Rate And Signed Contract RequiredThe employee must receive at least the going rate for the full-time role, evidenced by a signed contract.
  • Job offerThe employer must demonstrate a genuine vacancy and recruit a person with the relevant skills or experience.
  • Language requirementThere is no English-language requirement for temporary work permits.
  • Mandatory Absence After RouteThe policy requires four months after the first year, eight after up to two years, twelve after up to three years and sixteen after a fourth construction year.
  • Named Employer And Role OnlyA work permit is issued to a named employer for a named employee in a specified role.
