What type of worker, employment situation, occupation or professional activity is this pathway actually designed for?

News coverage and other journalistic activities carried out under a contract with a foreign news organisation, e.g. reporters and camera operators of foreign news organisations.

See recorded sources

Does the applicant need a job offer, employer, sponsor, transfer relationship or other employer involvement? What is important about that employer relationship?

A contract with a foreign news organisation is required. This can be employment by a foreign news organisation (dispatched from abroad or hired in Japan) or, for freelancers etc., a non-employment contract with a foreign news organisation; for dispatched staff the organisation certifies the activity, dispatch period, position and remuneration. Applications are categorised by whether the foreign news organisation employs staff issued a foreign press registration card by the MOFA Press Secretary.
