What education or training is this pathway designed for?

Not a study route: it is for graduates of excellent overseas universities who carry out job-hunting or start-up preparation activities in Japan, granted Designated Activities (future-creating talent).

What type of institution/course must accept or enrol the applicant?

The applicant must have graduated from, or completed a graduate course with a degree at, a university ranked within the top 100 in at least two of three world rankings (QS World University Rankings, THE World University Rankings, Academic Ranking of World Universities).

What are the most important financial or study-related conditions: tuition, funds, insurance, full-time study, attendance or equivalent?

Conditions include being within 5 years of the degree being conferred, and savings of at least 20万円 (JPY 200,000) at the time of application as initial living expenses.

Can the student work? Under what major restrictions? What is the family position where clearly stated?

Besides job hunting and start-up preparation, the holder may work to supplement the funds needed for those activities. The supported spouse and children can accompany with Designated Activities status; they need permission to engage in activities outside their status in order to work.
