What type of worker, employment situation, occupation or professional activity is this pathway actually designed for?

This route is for a foreign university student who works in the business of a Japanese company or similar organisation during the summer or other vacation period, for no more than three months, as an activity that contributes to their studies and future employment.

Does the applicant need a job offer, employer, sponsor, transfer relationship or other employer involvement? What is important about that employer relationship?

Yes. The work must be based on a contract between the student’s foreign university and the Japanese public or private organisation, the student receives remuneration from that organisation, and the work is at the organisation designated by the university. A copy of the contract between the university and the host organisation is required.

What are the few decisive professional characteristics of the pathway: occupation, qualifications, experience, salary, skill level, shortage status, labour-market condition or equivalent?

The distinctive features are student status at a foreign university, work in a Japanese organisation during a period when the university holds no classes for the student and not exceeding three months, and an activity contributing to the student's studies and future employment. The application requires a certificate of enrolment, proof of the vacation period, a copy of the contract between the foreign university and the Japanese host organisation, and a document stating the activity, period and remuneration in Japan.

What work does the permission allow? Is the holder tied to an employer, occupation or sector? Can family accompany where clearly established?

The permission covers work, for remuneration, in the business of the Japanese organisation designated by the student’s university, so the holder is tied to that organisation. The official source does not state whether family members can accompany the holder.
