Which athletes, coaches, technicians, officials or other sports professionals does the pathway cover?

Coaches ('allenatori') and athletic trainers ('preparatori atletici') are named in the implementing rules for foreign sportspeople, which exclude them from the annual entry quotas set for foreign sportspeople.

What club, federation, governing body or recognised organisation relationship is required?

For the sports-coach route, the Italian Embassy in Panama expressly describes work as an athlete or coach with an Italian sports organisation. Its procedure starts when that organisation requests the sports-activity authorisation from CONI; the coach then requests the visa after authorisation. This directly establishes a relationship with an Italian sports organisation for that consular procedure.
