What club, federation, governing body or recognised organisation relationship is required?

A nominal declaration of assent issued by CONI to the competent Italian diplomatic/consular office, stating the athlete's details, the chosen sports discipline and the details and address of the destination club, accompanied by a Questura nulla osta issued no earlier than 90 days before; the CONI assent is required also for self-employed sports performance.

What sporting level, achievement, professional status, recognition or other sports-specific condition distinguishes the pathway?

The CONI assent is given on the request of the destination club, on a professional or amateur basis, under Law No. 91 of 23 March 1981. Self-employed entries of sportspeople are outside the general flussi quotas, but an annual maximum for foreign sportspeople paid for professional or otherwise remunerated activity is set by decree on CONI's proposal and divided among national sports federations. The official source does not state a minimum sporting level or achievement.

What sporting/work activity is permitted, what club or activity restrictions exist, and what is the family position?

The checked official sources did not provide enough route-specific evidence to confirm the permitted sporting activity, club restrictions and family position.

How long does the status last, how does renewal or change of club work where stated, and what longer-term residence possibilities exist?

This is a long-stay visa (stay over 90 days). The CONI declaration of assent and the residence permit can be renewed, also to allow transfer of the foreign sportsperson between sports clubs within the same federation.
