Which athletes, coaches, technicians, officials or other sports professionals does the pathway cover?

The permit covers foreign nationals with the relevant qualifications, skills, experience or knowledge for the development, operation and capacity of sporting (and cultural) activities. The official source does not name specific roles such as athletes, coaches or officials.

What club, federation, governing body or recognised organisation relationship is required?

The employer must be registered in Ireland with the Revenue Commissioners and must directly employ and pay the worker; at least 50% of its employees must be EEA nationals. The Department may consult governing bodies.

What sporting level, achievement, professional status, recognition or other sports-specific condition distinguishes the pathway?

The worker must have the qualifications, skills and experience required for the job; pay must be at least the National Minimum Wage, and no Labour Market Needs Test applies. The official source does not state a sporting level or achievement threshold.

What sporting/work activity is permitted, what club or activity restrictions exist, and what is the family position?

The holder may work only for the named employer, in the occupation and location(s) on the permit; first-time holders are expected to stay 12 months with the first employer, then may move with a new permit. Dependants, partners and spouses cannot get a Dependant/Partner/Spouse permit and must apply for their own permit.

How long does the status last, how does renewal or change of club work where stated, and what longer-term residence possibilities exist?

The permit is granted for up to 24 months at first and is extendable by a further 3 years, after which the holder is expected to apply for long-term residency; after 5 consecutive years on these permits the holder may apply for a temporary Stamp 4.
