It is for non-EEA nationals required by a company or organisation based in Ireland to provide a specialised or high skill to an industry, business or academic institution for a short period, for example a specialist engineer or an ICT professional.

The scheme targets specialised, highly-skilled employment of a short-term nature (generally under 90 days) that is not supported by Employment Permit legislation. Employment on the Ineligible Categories of Employment list is excluded.

Permission under the Scheme is granted for a maximum period of 90 days. The 90 days can be used to support intermittent travel into and out of the State to a maximum of 90 days over a 6 month period. A cooling-off period of one month applies from the end of the 6 month period before any new entry under a subsequent AWS permission. Permission is not reckonable for Stamp 4.
